Q. What is “On Demand” book printing?
A. On-demand printing uses digital technology as a way of publishing books to order for a fixed cost per copy, irrespective of the size of the order. Digital files are ideally suited to publish small print runs and when they are needed. Print 'On Demand' provides lower per unit costs for very small print runs rather than traditional printing methods, such as off-set printing.
With On Demand printing, your project can be printed economically and in smaller quantities, instead of being forced into printing large quantities and expensively storing material that can possibly become obsolete. We store your project for you indefinitely FREE OF CHARGE, so anytime you need a reprint, it’s as easy as picking up the phone!
Q. What can I expect from my customer service contact?
A. As soon as your project is confirmed to come in, you will be assigned your very own Customer Service Specialist (CSS) who is highly trained in all areas of print production and will guide you and your project through every phase. Your CSS can assist you as your prepare your material for print, offer suggestions and set your production schedule keeping YOUR NEEDS in mind.
On the day your job is received, your CSS will phone you. This lets you know that your job has been positively received and will reconfirm the production schedule and goes over any missing items, i.e., shipping instructions, etc.
Your job pieces (content and book cover art) will be simultaneously reviewed, imposed and prepped for press. If there are any questions at this stage, you will receive communication from your CSS requesting information.
Proofs will be sent to you for review and approval by your CSS. Approvals can be communicated via email or phone. Please discuss any changes with your CSS.
Your CSS is the coordinator and main point of contact of your project…from beginning to end… from content preparation to book delivery at your final destination. Your CSS can help you with any scheduling, technical, proofing, printing and shipping questions at every step along the way.
Q. Why not go to a local printer/copy shop?
A. A local printer may not be able to handle short runs. At a copy shop, your project may be printed on a printer that is not designed to handle larger quantities, and costs can quickly escalate. One of the many advantages of working with Books On Demand is that our experts will make certain that we use the printing process that best meets the unique specifications of your project. You may have your entire project ready to go, or may need production help. Tell us where you are with your project, and we will answer questions, offer suggestions and assist you in any way we can. Some production work may be needed in order to produce your project. Q. How long will it take to complete my project?
A. Delivery time depends on many factors. Complexity of the job, availability of paper, availability of press and bindery time. In all cases, we can turn around your book under 12 working days and in most cases, you can have your books delivered within 3 weeks and often quicker!
Q. What about shipping costs?
A. Shipping costs are included in your quote. We can ship your products by a variety of methods, including FedEx ground, freight or overnight service. Your shipping method will depend on your quantity and how quickly the final product is needed. Contact us for details on all shipping options available and we can assist you in select the most cost-effective choice.
Q. What are the steps involved in the printing of my project?
A. The Books On Demand printing process is simple…Our books are produced on a high-end digital press for the covers and a high-quality copier for the interior pages - but unless you’re a printer you’ll never know the difference. (Order some samples and see for yourself.) And the process of getting them to you, quickly and affordably, is quite simple. Each book order follows this path:
1. Initiate Project - We just need a signed quote and your submitted material and a 50% deposit to get going. Once we have your material we will be in touch with you, and within a day you will be contacted by us over the phone with a schedule and the current status your job. This step is in your hands.
2. Layout and Design - Some books require layout and design, which we can handle. If your book is already done, you can skip this step. Once the layout & design is approved, we’ll need your written approval before we proceed.
3. Prepress - Once the artwork is approved, we use a detailed checklist to check your file for nearly every known pitfall. Then we lay it out the way that it needs to be for printing.
4. Prepress Proof - After we’ve prepared the book for printing, we print and send you a prepress proof. This sample proof shows you the layout and quality of your book. You’ll need to approve it in writing before we move ahead.
5. Printing - Your books will be produced in the most efficient and cost effective way possible.
6. Bindery - Once the printing is completed, your book is bound with the binding option of your choice
7. Delivery - We ship your books wherever and whenever you need them. Shipping costs are included in your quote and the method will depend on your quantity and how quickly the final product is needed.
